Today we start in the Republic’s second city Brno. We approach from the south over the first steam powered railway of the Austro Hungarian Empire. In Brno we look at the extensive tram and trolleybus system, the main station Brno hl, and the suburban network before discussing the prospects, and implications, of a new station on a new site. From hl we move north to Maloměřický yard the largest classification yard in the Czech Republic. Here we watch trains from across Eastern Europe being re-marshalled and trip freights being prepared for local duties. While Maloměřický is a relatively modern facility, it has one or two throwbacks to an earlier age that we think you will enjoy! From Brno we travel to Znojmo a small town on the Czech Austrian border near the Austrian town of Retz. Here the electrification is at 15kv AC and OBB City Shuttle trains now work a regular service to Vienna. There is also considerable cross border freight, some very short runs while some wagons head for Kledering and international connections. We continue further west to the home of beer in the Republic- České Budějovice. The town of 100,000 is also an important rail cross roads Plzeň to Brno and Prague to Linz. We look at both services and the international freight over this important but largely unrecognised TEN freight corridor. Narrated filmed in HD. RT 80 mins. Published March 2013. ©FHP 2013
