In this programme we follow the busiest freight railway in Sweden that connects the southern ports: Malmö, Ystad, Helsingborg, Gothenburg with the industrial heartland of Sweden around Lake Mälaren and points north. The railway turntable for this is Hallsberg classification yard. We visit: Mjölby (the junction station on the Malmo – Stockholm mainline) Motala, where the railway crosses the Göta Canal, Hallsberg and its freight yard, Örebro, where we visit the town and the rail connected industrial estate at Törsjö, Frövi where the line splits for the far north, the towns along the shores of Lake Mälaren and look at a very busy freight terminal operated by Essinge, the port of Köping, Västerås, Kvicksund and Uppsala- the 4th largest city in the country. We conclude with a northerly entry to Stockholm near the site of the soon to be opened North Stockholm Intermodal terminal at Rosersberg. RT 95mins Narrated filmed in HD
