The rail and sea options between Hamburg and the Nordic rim following a feeder vessel from the German port through the Kiel Canal to the Baltic. On land we look at the rail alternative through Denmark.
Travel to Bad Ischl in Austria. The railway through the Spa town is the Salzkammergutbahn a delightful secondary railway which links the Westbahn and the Sudbahn through the mountains.
We use Bad Ischl as a base to visit the delightful Schafbergbahn on the Wolfgangsee.
Our final chapter covers another secondary line in Austria- Retz has a surprising amount of freight for a town of 5,000. We also cross the border to nearby Znojmo in the Czech Republic.
